The unicorn has been a symbol of Scotland since the time of Robert III in the fourteenth century, possible even as far back as the days of King William the Lion in the 1100s.
In mythology, unicorns were immensely powerful and very dangerous creatures, symbols of the brute forces of nature. As majestic as they look you wouldn't want to be in the way of one. As such, the Scottish unicorn has always been depicted chained and collared by a crown, a symbol that the wild and dangerous nature of the Scottish landscape (and people) are unified, tamed and bought together as a kingdom. It has always surprised us that there are so many thistles and lions made celebrating the identity of Scotland, while the unicorn is surprisingly neglected. We're proud that ours was the first Unicorn kilt pin developed.
Our unicorn kilt pin has been completely designed, cast and finished in our workshop in Glasgow, Scotland, by our highly trained craftsmen. Made with lead-free pewter, and available in a plain finish, or with antique silver. May also been worn as a large brooch.
Size 85mm long, 50mm wide.
Please note, if not in stock, could take 4-6 weeks for delivery
