This medium-sized plaid brooch, finished with a striking copper plating, features a large circular cutout to beautifully display the tartan underneath. Inspired by medieval brooches yet designed with a modern touch, its gently domed shape makes it a refined and understated statement piece, perfect for those who appreciate fine details.

The brooch is adorned with lion motifs at four points, complemented by Celtic knotwork and zoomorphic designs in between. The lion, a proud symbol of Scotland since the Middle Ages, is paired with intricate knot patterns that trace their origins back to early medieval art. The charming lion design was crafted by the late Romilly Squire, heraldic artist to the Lord Lyon.

Traditionally, plaid brooches are used to secure shoulder plaids, providing weight to keep them in place without pinning them to the jacket—an important feature to avoid snags. This versatile piece also makes a beautiful shawl brooch for women.

Designed, cast, and finished entirely in our Glasgow workshops, located in the heart of Scotland.

Made from high-quality, lead-free pewter and finished with a warm copper plating.

Diameter: 72mm – an ideal size for use with fly plaids or shawls.
